It’s undeniable that WAAX front woman Maz De Vita is one of the most awe-inspiring and intimidating live performers in Australia (and after the band’s recent pummelling of SXSW – we can now comfortably say she kicks the world’s arse too). Now she has a video that perfectly captures the bloody red raw intensity and emotion she brings to her music in the form of the thrilling new video for WAAX’s latest single, ‘FU.’
The video, directed by Marty Moynihan & Jeremy Hancock, is reminiscent of modern horror flicks like Get Out and Let The Right One In, combining stark close-ups, clever visual effects, and violently fast motions all to add an even more impactful level of aggression and surprise to De Vita’s already captivating presence.
The clip drops just a few weeks in the aftermath of the single’s release and subsequent success after taking up the charge from its thunderous predecessor ‘Labrador’ – the song that firmly placed WAAX in the national spotlight. ‘FU’ has now taken the mantle of triple j’s most-played song in recent weeks, and has continued to thrill fans with its brutally honest lyricism, next to its jagged grunge shards dipped in melody and angst.
