The Cut My Heart Into Pieces tour has been currently making its way around Australia. Combing the double headliner of iconic American bands The Used and Papa Roach. Tonight at the Hordern Pavilion it’s Sydney’s turn to experience the angst driven show that’s been getting rave reviews.

Thousands of elder emos and hard rockers made their way to the venue for the night ahead. Kicking things off were Japanese metalcore band Cold Rain. Giving a thunderous performance to set the mood.

After a short break it was time for the first of the headliners to begin. Huge cheers erupted from the audience as Papa roach burst onto the stage. Starting off the set with “kill the noise” taken from their latest album Ego Trip.  Then transporting us all back to 2004 with their killer track “getting away with murder”. The sixteen song strong setlist kept the energy of the room high throughout. A cover of “firestarter” by The Prodigy paid homage to Keith Flint and showed the bands versatility in different genres. The Used pretty handsome vocalist Bert McCracken joined Jacoby to help sing “no apologies” giving the crowd a special moment. The highlight had to be seeing the entire room lose their mind to “last resort”. As the set ended appropriately with “born for greatness”.

Then as fans ran from the bar lines and merch lines it was nearly time for The Used. A flood of light hit the stage as the band appeared instantly hitting us with the emo nostalgia of “take it away”. Then followed by “the bird and the worm”. It was cuteness overload as Bert’s two young daughters Cleopatra and Minerva joined their dad on stage, to dance around and blow kisses. Jacoby Shaddix returned the favour helping out on vocals for “blood on my hands”. The final song of the night goes to the beautiful “a box full of sharp objects” with a partial cover of “smells like teen spirit” as an outro.

Tonight was memorable for so many reasons. With both Papa Roach and The Used’s lyrics cutting deep!
