After a lengthy departure, Melbourne four-piece The Motion Below have resurfaced and revamped with a lineup change, a fresh new take on their post-hardcore genre and a brand new single and video, “State of Decay“. Not only are the band bringing a single to the table, but they are also announcing that this brand new offering is the first cut from an upcoming EP release titled ‘Cronux Complex‘.
Passionate and scathing, “State of Decay” explores the effects of traumatic experiences on the mind and, more specifically, how different individuals handle trauma in their own way, for better or worse. Frontman Ryan Matheson explains that “at its core, the song is about recognising the difference between genuine despair in the face of hardship and the refusal to take responsibility for one’s own problems, no matter the severity. Intertwined with this central theme are expressions of guilt, anger, and ultimately resignation from attempting to help those who simply won’t accept it.”
Bringing a melodic, fierce flavour to their sound, The Motion Below seek to break the mold with a style that is reminiscent of post-hardcore bands of the mid to late 2000’s, whilst still maintaining the energy and aggression that is synonymous with metalcore. Keep an eye out as The Motion Below bring you a taste of what is – and will be.
“State of Decay” is out now and available on all digital and streaming platforms!
