Sydney’s iconic Burdekin Hotel is thrilled to announce the venue has been granted an exemption from 2014’s draconian lock-out laws. The vibrant Oxford St mainstay venue is now permitted to grant entry until 2am and serve last drinks at 3:30am.
Joining the likes of other venues in the Kings Cross and CBD entertainment precinct the news of Burdekin Hotel’s lock-out exemption helps fuel more diverse nightlife in Sydney, and creates a sense of hope that the live music and late-night entertainment scene can be restored to its pre-‘Nanny state’ glory. Particular importance should also be placed on Oxford St and the immediately surrounding areas which have traditionally served as a safe and inclusive strip of thriving venues for the LGBTQIA+ community, having already lost seminal venues such as The Flinders Hotel and Exchange Hotel to the laws.
One of Sydney’s longest standing entertainment venues, Burdekin Hotel has been in operation since the 1840s in various incarnations. A long-time supporter and ally of the LGBTQIA+ community, having regularly held Mardi Gras after-parties and gay nights, Burdekin Hotel is a safe and inclusive place for all to party.
