Today, two of Australia’s most iconic and legendary acts, Melbourne punk rock stalwarts Bodyjar and Perth rock gurus Gyroscope announce they are heading out on the road together in what will be one of THE tours of 2023.
Bodyjar will be celebrating 25 years of their classic album No Touch Red, playing the album in full, which includes the hits Remote Controller & You Say.Gyroscope will be celebrating 15 years of their ARIA No.1 and certified GOLD record Breed Obsession, playing the album in full, which includes the hits Snakeskin & Australia. Special guests on all shows except Bunbury is Melbourne rock band Klinger. Full tour details below.
Bodyjar singer / guitarist Cam Baines fondly remembers, “No Touch Red was recorded at the famous Morin Heights studio in Montreal Canada, everyone from The Police to Corey Hart (Sunglasses At Night) recorded there in the 80’s and 90’s. We even got to use Stings coffee cup and tantric Tamborine”
“It was the dead of winter in 1998 and we’d just finished a huge but gruelling tour of Canada playing with Blink 182, SNFU and MXPX. The last show was with Descendents in Montreal where we convinced Bill Stevenson by knifepoint to mix the album once it was done.”
“The album almost never happened when our bass player Grant slammed drummer Ross’s hand in the sliding Tarago van door after loading into the studio. After an X-ray he was cleared to play but it was a miracle that he did!”
On touring with Gyroscope, Bodyjar guitarist Tom Read enthuses, “We can remember the first time we came across these young kids from Perth who are very good at destroying stages and writing very good songs. Nothing has changed as they haven’t aged a day and either has their music……..Us on the other hand, you’ll have to see that to believe it.”
On their ARIA No.1 album Breed Obsession, Gyroscope recall, “In 2007 we spent about 6 weeks living and breathing this record in Liverpool with the legend Dave Eringa (Idlewild, Manic Street Preachers) who helped us bring this record to life. We shot a video for the first single ‘snakeskin’ in Wiltshire, where a 200 metre crop circle was purpose built. No alien sightings but it made for a cool video at least!
On touring with Bodyjar and hearing No Touch Red every night, Gyroscope state “15 Years gone way too fast, but this record brings back some amazing memories for us and we are super keen to do a deep dive into Breed Obsession from front to back. As a bonus, we grew up thrashing the record No Touch Red by Bodyjar and feel honoured to share the 25th Anniversary of their killer record.”
